Fire Service Plumbing
Many people are unclear as to the responsibility when it comes to fire services. This is a very important facet of plumbing to be very well aware of.
It is essential that fire services are fully functioning and operational in an emergency situation. It’s important for fire services to be maintained and the responsibility of maintenance is with the Property Owner.
The fire service responsibility begins at the valve on the water main, which could be in the footpath or road way; its location varies from property to property.
It is possible that tenants may also be legally obligated to maintain the fire service as indicated in their insurance policy. The property owner or tenant should consult a fire protection or plumbing contractor to regularly maintain:
- The fire service piping connecting to the authority stop valve located directly off the water main.
- Surface fittings associated with the fire service, including hydrants, valves and fittings.
The property owner or tenant is responsible for the repair of a leaking fire service, including any private water supply works in a road reserve and within the property, and all costs for repair, associated with the leak.
